Fashion East adds AV Robertson and Mimi Wade to LFW lineup
Non-profit programme Fashion East is supporting for the first time four emerging young designers at its forthcoming London Fashion Week show, it announced on Tuesday. Returning designers Caitlin Price and Richard Malone, who took part in the programmes’ AW15 and SS16 shows respectively, will be joined by AV Robertson and Mimi Wade.
Lulu Kennedy MBE, Director of Fashion East says “the new applicants were especially strong this season, with Amie Robertson even being recommended to us by Katie Grand and Katie Hillier. The selection process was getting impossible, until panel member Mandi Lennard suggested we award four designers instead of our usual three.”
The designers will show their AW16 collections in Topshop’s showspace on February 20th. The programme, which is backed by Topshop, Topman and The Greater London Authority, has supported the careers of several established designers in the past, including Gareth Pugh, Jonathan Saunders, House of Holland, Roksanda Ilincic, Simone Rocha and Marques’Almeida.
AV Robertson is a young designer from Manchester, who has worked in the design team at Marc Jacobs in New York and Paris, and launched a collaborative capsule collection with Asos Black. A Central Saint Martins graduate, the designer makes this year her LFW debut with Fashion East.
Mimi Wade is a young British American designer and recent Fashion Print graduate from Central Saint Martins. Wade’s graduate collection of intricately hand painted leather party dresses were a celebration of cult 50s Hollywood Horror heroines, “one of the few genres where female actors were able to ‘act out’”. AW16 will also be the designer’s LFW debut.
Fashion East’s programme will also offer the selected designers financial sponsorship, intensive one-to-one business mentoring, and inclusion in a leading Paris sales showroom.
