Cost of living: Singapore, Paris and Oslo the priciest cities in the world

Basing its calculations on 160 products and services, the Worldwide Cost of Living Report 2015 shows that Singapore, Paris and Oslo are the most expensive cities in the world. The ranking also reveals strong fluctuations in Asia.

The fall of the Yen thus pushed Tokyo and Osaka to 11th and 16th place, while Hong Kong remained in 9th position alongside Seoul, which five years ago was all the way in 50th place. But Asia also has some of the least expensive cities of the 133 that were examined, with Karachi and Bangalore at the end of the list. Five of the six least expensive cities are thus in Pakistan and India.

The rest of the most expensive cities are found in Australia, where Sydney and Melbourne take 5th and 6th place, and in Western Europe. In addition to Paris, the ranking includes Zurich (4th), Geneva (7th) and Copenhagen (8th).

As for New York, it holds the 22nd spot, while Algiers now stands at 124, ahead of Kathmandu, Tehran, Damas, and New Delhi.
