Published
Feb 6, 2015

The fashion department of the online retail giant has recruited Vogue.com editor Caroline Palmer to be its new editorial and social director.

Caroline Palmer has held an executive role at Condé Nast publications, in particular working on the development of Vogue.com, for seven years now. Before that she worked at Vogue, from 2001 to 2003, before holding roles notably at Reed Elsevier and the New York Times.

She will be in charge of driving which clothing, footwear and accessories feature on the site and its corresponding social platforms depending on current trends.

With fashion being one of its strongest growing activities, Amazon has set a goal to become one of the top 5 visited sites in the sector, even though the retailer wasn't even part of the top 10 a year ago.

Launched in 2013, Amazon Fashion currently offers 2,650 brands and 350,000 items. For fall/winter 2014, the portal expanded its site with the arrival of 44 new fashion brands (Boss Orange, Celio, Naf Naf…), 21 shoe labels and 34 jewellery and watch designers.

200 million customers strong, in 2014 Amazon generated 78.71 billion euros in sales, up 20% compared to 2013. The group did nevertheless record some 213.17 million euros in losses, compared to a 218.48 million euro profit a year earlier.
