It’s been a good first half for Wincanton, highlighted by the UK-based supply chain business winning a “significant” five-year contract to provide all of Primark’s delivery needs to its UK stores.

Under the contract, which begins early next year, Wincanton will make more than 50,000 deliveries to 191 stores across the UK each year and deliver “significant operational efficiencies to the safety, service and cost of its supply chain”.

As part of the operations, Wincanton and Primark will also work to ensure a reduction in carbon emissions, for example reducing distances travelled by HGVs by 15% and increasing the use of alternative fuels.

Other positive news included Wincanton seeing half-year revenues jump 28.6% to £690.3 million and underlying pre-tax profit up an even better 43% on the prior year to £27.3 million

And what pleased chief executive James Wroath as much as the strong set of first half results in the first half and record levels of growth?

“We have delivered this performance notwithstanding the well-documented challenges across the supply chain. We are taking steps to address shortages of labour and we are well positioned to deal with the cost pressures we are seeing across our markets,” he noted.
