​Shop Direct appoints first head of data science

UK e-tailer Shop Direct is investing in big data and personalisation with the appointment of Gael Decoudu as head of data science and digital analytics.

In this role, the seasoned expert in analytics will lead a team of over 20 people to uncover insights within ecommerce using data analytics. This area of IT aims to utilise customer behaviour patterns to improve the end-to-end customer journey and provide a more personalised experience across the company’s retail brands, Very.co.uk, VeryExclusive.co.uk and Littlewoods.

The appointment comes at a moment of expansion for Shop Direct. The UK business recently launched its own clothing brand for Very.co.uk and introduced premium menswear brands on VeryExclusive.co.uk. Additionally, trading has been strong with record profits for the FY to June 30, 2015 as well as for the 2015 Christmas period.

Gael Decoudi said about Shop Direct: “The company is using its remote retail heritage as well as new methods in data analytics to understand its customer and improve their experience. Through even better data modelling and segmentation, we intend to unearth new actionable insight that can make the shopping experience even more relevant for our customer, which can help our retail brands thrive.”
