A major retail development in Yorkshire has been given a new name, as developers reveal the first big name retailers to confirm their interest in the £160m scheme.

Axiom Yorkshire

The retail park is being developed by Lateral Property Group and Highgrove Group, who have changed its name from Five Towns Park to Axiom and launched a new project website and marketing video.

Axiom has been described as one of the UK’s most significant regeneration projects, creating a new benchmark for ‘next-generation’ retail and leisure experience. The scheme will have direct access from the M61 Motorway and feature 75 fully covered retail, restaurant and leisure units.

M&S, Primark, Next and Boots have already signed up for flagship regional stores, totalling in excess of 21,000 sq mts, said the developers.

In addition to permanent leisure attractions, there will be constantly changing retail, restaurant and leisure pop-ups, and the construction of a nearby community stadium for Castleford Tigers Rugby League Club will provide a sports focus.

Axiom will be the largest out of town retail, leisure and sports development in England for 20 years, occupying a 106 acre site.

Lateral Property Group received planning permission for the shopping destination from Wakefield Council in February 2015. It will start construction this year, with the opening planned for 2021.
