Sharmadean Reid, the founder of Wah Nails, has raised $1 million in seed funding for a new beauty app that will launch this summer.

Her Beautystack project, aimed at connecting beauty professionals with customers, received the backing of angel investors such as LocalGlobe, former Net-A-Porter CEO Mark Sebba, David Rowan and Julien Codorniou.

The beauty platform will act as an appointment booking engine and social media network, where professionals can showcase their work and accept bookings from customers. The app will serve a market that has been forecasted to grow to $445 billion this year.

"There is a new market of millennial beauty professionals who use social media to build their client base and solicit enquiries via direct messaging. By using Beautystack, these professionals will be able to close the loop on bookings from content," said Reid to City AM.

“This is the age of the selfie. People are posting millions of them every day, whether on Instagram or other networks, and it’s this user-generated content and recommendations from friends that people look to when booking beauty services, not a listings page."

The app, already live in beta mode, will be launched in London and LA this summer with a select number of beauty professionals.
