“We’re extremely excited to confirm plans for our Cheltenham store; the town has a superb retail heritage with many great brands already having representation,” said a spokesperson for the brand, which is home to well-known fashion names including Calvin Klein, Levi’s and Vivienne Westwood.

The opening is part of Urban Outfitters’ UK expansion strategy, and takes the number of Urban Outfitters stores in the UK to 30. Subject to approval from Cheltenham Borough Council for their external signage, the shop is expected to open in the autumn.

“We’re delighted to welcome Urban Outfitters to The Brewery Quarter,” said Anne Hurrell, asset manager of NFU Mutual, which owns The Brewery Quarter. “The store is a must for the fashion conscious high street shopper and is a welcome coup for Cheltenham and The Brewery Quarter. It shows vested confidence in the centre’s prime retail location.”

Cheltenham will also welcome Gloucestershire’s first John Lewis store in October. The department store chain is investing £23m in the new shop, which will offer fashion, home and tech products and services.

Philip Martin, managing director for Martin Commercial Properties, which manages The Brewery Quarter, commented about Urban Outfitter’s arrival: “This letting demonstrates the continued confidence in Cheltenham’s retail landscape and with John Lewis on its way in October we expect the offer to improve even further, as more exciting occupiers sign up for available space.

"We are currently in active discussions with a number of other complimentary tenants and look forward to be making further announcements in the coming months.”
