UK's Fat Face confirms US launch

Published
Jun 20, 2015

British retailer Fat Face is expanding this autumn, opening its first store outside the UK and Ireland in the US. The store will be located in Boston.

CEO Anthony Thompson told The Guardian that Fat Face intends to continue its US expansion with three stores set to open by May next year and “five to 10 in the next 18 months. But we will do it in measured stages based on performance.”

The company already has a US website, and it also plans to expand digitally in Europe, with dedicated language sites and concessions.

An aborted float and bad second quarter saw Fat Face's profit fall 5-10% on the £39m achieved last year, but Thompson is still enthusiastic about the brand's future. He tells The Guardian it will open about 12 new stores in the UK and Ireland.

Fat Face is also making a special effort for the Black Friday shopping craze this year. It didn't participate last year, but this year it is promising to give 10% of its net profits taken over the November weekend to charity.
