Exports of British fashion goods rose to £10.7 billion in 2016, the highest on record, indicating a clear demand for such goods, with the United States, Hong Kong and Australia — the top three buyers of British fashion brands outside Europe — consuming more than £1 billion worth of exports in that year, says the UK Department for International Trade (DIT).

According to Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs statistics, the figure represents an 8 per cent rise over the 2015 export figures of footwear, clothing and textiles, says a recent UK government press release.

DIT collaborated with the British Fashion Council (BFC) to help UK designers expand their export base at the London Fashion Week from September 15 to 19 which attracted major fashion buyers from the across the world. It gives British designers access to high profile buyers from developed markets.

DIT and BFC are also promoting leading British fashion designers on the world stage by taking 15-20 designers on a trade mission to the next Paris Fashion Week.
