The Pierre Bergé-Yves Saint Laurent Foundation hosts Hedi Slimane "Sonic" exhibition

From September 18, 2014 to January 11, 2015, the Pierre Bergé-Yves Saint Laurent Foundation will host "Sonic," an exhibition of Hedi Slimane photographs of famous musicians.

Hedi Slimane has always played the dual role of designer and photographer.

This exhibition samples from a musical archive spanning 15 years, photographed in London, New York and California. These powerful images pay tribute to the culture of rock and roll, created by Hedi Slimane, the designer who launched androgynous fashion in the 2000s.

The black and white prints of these heroes and heroines of rock are being shown publicly for the first time. The studio portraits of Lou Reed, Keith Richards, Amy Winehouse and Brian Wilson are paired with images alternating between London and California.

A video installation supplements the photography exhibition, juxtaposing the London (2003-2007) and California (2007-2014) music scenes in a documentary.

The exhibition paints a portrait of two alternating generations of performers and their fans but is also a reminder that the creative director behind the revival of the Saint Laurent house is also a talented photographer.
