The Hut Group, one of the world’s largest e-tailers selling health and beauty plus fashion and homewares, has acquired an international hosting company in a strategic move to upgrade the existing technology behind its e-commerce sites.

The company announced the acquisition of UK-2 Limited from its private equity owner LDC on Friday, saying it will help it further develop its world class e-commerce technology platform.

It said the acquisition represents a “unique strategic opportunity”, as UK2’s high performance infrastructure will help the group’s platform to deliver faster online experiences across the world.

“This is a significant technology investment to support our growth plans and provide a world class proprietary ecommerce platform and infrastructure to increase capacity, speed and resilience for our global customer base” commented THG founder and CEO Matthew Moulding.

The group, established in 1998, operates fashion and beauty brands including AllSole, Coggles, MyBag, Lookfantastic.com and SkinStore. All brands from the group’s portfolio are powered by its proprietary e-commerce platform.

The platform is also used by some of the world’s largest brands such as Unilever, Honda and Ninendo.
