Superdrug aims to extend consumer reach with phone network

Health and beauty retailer Superdrug has decided to add a SIM only mobile phone plan to its offering after finding out that customers want a simple service with no strings attached.

Powered by Three, the plan is exclusively available to Superdrug’s Health & Beautycard loyalty card members, who will be rewarded with double points on their Superdrug shopping and get the cost of their first month’s plan back in points if they sign up to the scheme.

For £10 a month, the mobile phone offers 4GB of data that can be rolled over for an extra month if unused. Customers can also top up their monthly data allowance by paying £2 for an additional 1GB, £3 for an additional 2GB and £5 for an additional 4GB.

Bhavik Davda, Superdrug head of health & Beautycard comments: “We are always looking at ways that we can give our members something different, useful and great value and are delighted to offer this new mobile phone network.

“Offering the service without a contract, allowing people to leave at any point, will give customers the freedom and transparency they’re looking for, while the added extra of getting your first month’s payment back in points allows members to give the service a try at no risk.”

The strategy could help lift Superdrug’s revenue as UK make-up sales start to stall. According to a recent report by The NPD Group, the make-up market grew by just 6% in 2017, compared to 11% in 2016. Superdrug relies heavily on its beauty offering, particularly its make-up ranges, and could see its performance take a wrong turn if it fails to reflect the changing trend.
