St Pancras International has launched an online smart tool providing tailored gift ideas from the retailers that have a presence at the station, as new research reveals that 41 million gifts go unwanted each year.

St Pancras is home to both high-end and affordable brands including Fortnum & Mason, Aspinal of London, Chanel, LK Bennett, M&S, Ted Baker, Whistles and The White Company.

Its online ‘Perfect Gift Generator’ processes shoppers’ answers to a series of questions and provides a tailored list of gifts that can be found at the station, providing a solution for the 33% of consumers who are estimated to make a last minute dash to the shops on Christmas Eve.

“We were really surprised by the number of gifts that go unwanted at Christmas. Equally, we understand that it can be tricky picking the perfect present, particularly with so much choice and often, little time, which is why we decided to develop the Perfect Gift Generator tool,” commented Wendy Spirnks, commercial director at HS1.

“With an array of stunning products available from our carefully curated selection of retailers, we wanted to take the convenient nature of the station retail offer one step further, by providing inspiration for the one million visitors expected each week in the run up to Christmas.”

According to the shopping destination and railway station, more than a third of Brits donate unwanted gifts to charity, while one in four sell them online. A further 15% swap them for something else in store and 14% of adults hide unwanted gifts or throw them away.
