Sports Direct to open giant shopping complex in Southport

SportsDirect.com has unveiled plans to open a brand new retail and fitness concept in Southport with its sports and fashion fascias Sports Direct, Flannels and USC housed next door to each other.



Opening this month, the complex will occupy a 62,457 sq ft site at the former Morrisons Unit on Tulketh Street and will also include a 16,092 sq ft Everlast Fitness Club.

Sportsdirect.com will have a 26,000 sq ft store featuring dedicated areas for specialist sports brands, including Robinsons Equestrian, Dragon Carp Fishing, Sweatshop (the specialist running retailer), Soccer Scene and Field & Trek (Specialist Outdoor retailer).

USC will offer trend focused customers a selection of the season’s premium branded denim, urban fashion, accessories and footwear from brands such as G-Star, Lacoste, Vans, Converse, Levis, Hilfiger Denim, DKNY and Pretty Green. The USC store will spread across 5,511 sq ft.

With 14,854 sq ft of space, Flannels’s store will be almost three times the size of USC’s. The luxury retailer will carry products from coveted international labels such as Kenzo, Moschino, Stone Island and Vivienne Westwood.

A spokesperson said: “We are really proud to open this new, ‘first of its kind’ shopping complex in Southport. Our customers will get the biggest brands in sportswear, sports equipment and fashion under one roof.  As we continue to grow throughout the UK, our ethos and commitment remains the same. We offer customers the biggest and best brands at guaranteed low prices.”

The Southport concept store will open its doors at the end of August, creating over 50 retail jobs.
