Oct 15, 2015
The chief executive of Sports Direct pleaded not guilty on Wednesday at Chersetfield magistrates’ court to criminal charges related to USC’s collapse. David Forsey was charged in January with a criminal offence for failing to notify authorities of plans to lay off staff in a Dundonald warehouse in Scotland.
The USC staff was allegedly notified 15 minutes before the warehouse was shut down that they would lose their jobs, although the employment law demands employers to give a 30 day notice.
Represented by his legal team, Forsey pleaded not guilty to failing to comply with trade union regulations between January 4 and 14. The group’s administrator, Robert Palmer, also pleaded not guilty, but relating to dates between January 12 and February 5.
The case was adjourned until March 14 for a three-day hearing.
