Sports Direct and USC to open megastore in Sunderland

Sports Direct is set to unveil this Friday a 36,637 sq ft store in Sunderland in a unit formerly occupied by BHS. The megastore will house the group's Sports Direct and USC fascias.

The store on High Street West has been vacant since August 2016, when BHS closed down all stores in the UK following its collapse. The British department store was later acquired by Qatar-based Al Mana Group and relaunched as an online retailer in September.

Sports Direct and USC already have a physical presence in Sunderland’s The Bridges shopping centre, but according to local media both stores have closing down signs in the window.

The new store will include a large selection of specialist sportswear brands including Robinsons Equestrian, Dragon Carp Fishing, Field & Trek, Direct Golf and Swimshop, as well as a dedicated USC area with premium denim, urban fashion, accessories and footwear from directional brands such as Lacoste, Pretty Green, Replay, Vans and Converse.

Sport Direct operates more than 400 sports stores in the UK, with the premium lifestyle division operating more than 83 stores under the Flannels, Cruise, USC and Van Mildert fascias.
