Sophie Hulme opens new concept store in Harrods

High-end accessories brand Sophie Hulme has opened its first permanent store, with a soft-toned space in destination London department store Harrods. The concession covers 33 sq m and the design, by Hulme’s husband, architect Edward Swift, will be a template for any future stores the brand opens.

The new Sophie Hulme store is sleek and uncluttered

Located on the lower ground floor, it follows a successful year-long pop-up trial inside Harrods and launches with exclusives from the Resort 2017 collection, as well as the new Compton evening offer.

Harrods chief merchant Helen David said the Hulme pop-up had been very successful and the retailer has seen strong growth with the brand.

The new store includes a specially commissioned marble Sophie Hulme bag as part of its display, as well bag charms encased in acrylic, white shelves decorated with gold hardware (echoing the signature hardware of the brand’s bags) and two unique gold-plated felt-upholstered Arne Jacobsen chairs.

The opening comes as London department stores raise the stakes in the handbag sector with Selfridges last week opening the first part of its accessories space makeover with the unveiling of its new handbag hall. Hulme’s collections are also available there.

Hulme’s products are currently available at 230 stores in 23 countries with 14 major UK names carrying the brand. The five-year-old label has been available in Harrods for four of those years.
