Marino Vago has unanimously been appointed president of Sistema Moda Italia (SMI), the industry trade group representing Italy's textile and apparel firms, according to a press release.

Vago had won the support of many association members and was asked to take up the role in March of next year. He will be succeeding Claudio Marenzo, who has held the post for four years, and also became president of Pitti Immagine in February of this year.

Marino Vago is managing director of Vago, a textile finishing firm that specialises in the dyeing of cotton, linen, viscose, wool and cashmere.

Together with his brother Augusto, the entrepreneur has modernised and transformed his family's business Tintoria Filati Bustese - founded in 1952 by his father and uncle in Busto Arstizio, on the outskirts of Milan - into a recognised industry leader.

Marino Vago has also held several management roles in the local employers' association.
