Seasalt and Schuh Kids sign for key Cribbs Causeway mega-mall

Cornish fashion/lifestyle brand Seasalt is continuing to roll out stores in the UK with an opening in the important Cribbs Causway mall, the premier shopping destination in the Bristol and general South West England area.

Mall owners Intu and M&G Real Estate said that it will also be joined by a branch of Schuh Kids as the latest in a number of recent openings that have included British brand The White Company and Australian lifestyle and gifting retailer Typo.

Seasalt, like retail peer Joules, has been extremely successful at leveraging a traditional British lifestyle profile and mixing it in with more contemporary designs to help it grow, despite the troubles in the UK fashion retail market.

In Seasalt’s case, the specific Cornish aspect of its brand proposition has proved to be a winning feature as it has expanded. And despite trading on an image that’s all about getting away from it all in coastal Cornwall, it’s been opening in some of the most modern malls serving urban and suburban consumers across the UK, such as the new Tunsgate Quarter in Guildford and Victoria Gate shopping centre in Leeds.

Only last month the company said it had received a £16 million funding boost from BGF and Santander to pay for the opening of 40 new stores over the next five years and to improve its customer experience.

Back with the new Cribbs Causeway store, it will cover 1,360 sq ft under a 10-year lease and will stock a full range of womenswear, footwear and accessories.

Meanwhile footwear brand Schuh will bring its dedicated children’s store concept to the mall with Schuh Kids taking just over 2,000 sq ft, also on a 10-year lease. Schuh already trades there with a mainline store. It  launched the children’s concept in 2012 to offer a curated range from leading brands including Toms, Vans and Converse, for small feet.
