The 2,000 sq ft facility marks the designer’s 20-year support efforts to find a cure for breast cancer, which afflicts an estimated 1.7 million women each year.

The research institution at the Royal Marsden will concentrate on identifying molecular differences between tumors in order to ensure optimal treatment of individual breast cancer patients.

“My personal connection with The Royal Marsden goes back to my friendship with Princess Diana when she was its president in 1996,” said Mr. Lauren at the opening.

“It’s a great honour and pleasure to move forward in this fight against breast cancer with her son, who has taken over this role. I am inspired by his dedication and together I hope our efforts can help save lives affected by this disease.”

The lifestyle brand’s ongoing commitment to finding a cure for breast cancer has included the opening of centres in Washington, DC, and in New York City, as well as the launch of its Pink Pony range supporting programmes for early diagnosis and education.
