Ralph Lauren and Oak Labs unveil interactive fitting rooms

Published
Nov 18, 2015

Ralph Lauren and retail tech startup, Oak Labs launched interactive fitting rooms at the Ralph Lauren New York City flagship store on Fifth Avenue. The Oak Fitting Room utilizes Oak Labs’ new smart mirror technology that tallies how many items are in the room and can call for assistance.

The Oak Fitting Room smart mirror offers one-touch support - Oak Labs

The Fitting Room gives customers complete control and optimal assistance when they are trying on merchandise. Upon entering the room, the Fitting Room detects how many items the customer has through RFID tags. While in the room, they can adjust the lighting, call for assistance from a store associate, see stylist recommendations and save their session via a mobile number all with simple touches on the smart mirror.

Retailers benefit from the Oak Fitting Room since it can provide information about their customers like volume and lighting preferences, and it shows which items in store are most popular. The Fitting Room also offers language support in Chinese, Japanese, Italian, Spanish and Portuguese.

Oak Labs is a San Francisco-based retail tech company that aims to bridge the gap between retail and technology. The company recently received $4.1 million in seed funding from investors led by Wing Venture Capital, and it is partnering with Ralph Lauren to pilot its new smart mirror and Fitting Room technology.

Oak Labs charges a one-time fee for the hardware and recurring monthly licensing fees for the software.
