Though just 11% - a bit more than one in ten - of Internet users around the world have a smartwatch, 26% - more than one in four - of UK and US adults say they are interested in using an Apple Watch. The research was done by GlobalWebIndex and indicates that the Apple Watch may be the one to take smart watches mainstream.

Among people aged 25-34, as many as one in four are interested in using the Apple Watch. However, older customers, who are more likely to value traditional luxury watches, are less interested in it. Just 10% of people aged 55-64 are interested in the watch.

Among men, nearly a third, 31%, would like to use the watch, versus just 22% of women. The interest in the watch gets higher the higher income the customer has: 34% of those in the top 25% income bracket are interested in the watch, versus just 23% among those in the bottom 25%, showing that Apple still has a way to go before the watches are ubiquitous.
