MILAN, Sept 23, 2007 (AFP) - British supermodel Naomi Campbell put in a surprise celebrity appearance on the first day of the Milan ready-to-wear fashion shows, which got underway at the weekend.

She opened and closed the show for "Miss Bikini Luxe", one of the first collections unveiled in a low-key start to fashion week, with the heavy hitters not due to start showing until Monday.

Elena Miro, who specialises in clothes for the fuller figure, was first on the official calendar, presenting her fifth collection.

Around 90 catwalk presentations are scheduled over the next week, kicking off with Armani, Trussardi Just Cavalli, Gianfranco Ferre and the British label Burberry on Monday.

Prada, Missoni, Bottega Veneta, La Perla and Moschino are showing on Tuesday, followed by Roberto Cavalli, Salvatore Ferragamo Emporio Armani, Gucci and Alberta Ferretti on Wednesday.

On Thursday it will be the turn of Gianni Versace, Emilio Pucci, Fendi and the British designer John Richmond, with a host of small Italian houses winding up festivities on Friday and Saturday.
