Each of the designers was given the opportunity to design a unique piece using the Alcantara material, with an exhibition of the work to be shown at London's Protein Gallery. Among the ten designers are Ali Abdulrahim of the label Mai Gidah, Kay Kwok, Cat Potter, Qi Zhang, Jule Waibel, Sadie Clayton, and Liam Hopkins of the label Lazerian.

The exhibition at Protein opens on July 12, and will see the gallery transformed into a centre for creative collaboration, connecting the designers with journalists and industry insiders to create new partnerships. The designers were all chosen for their "forward thinking sensibilities, innovative approach to design and desire to work outside the enshrined structures, ultimately pushing the boundaries of fashion," NJAL said.

One of the contributors, Ali Abdulrahim, used Alcantara textures to translate flat images into 3D reflections, saying: "In previous times, fur and exotic skins were the ultimate luxury but now-a-days a high-tech material like Alcantara, with so many possibilities, can be just as desirable."

"Made in Italy | Designed in Britain: The Exhibition" is at Protein Gallery from July 12-20.
