N Brown to pay National Living Wage to all workers

Online fashion retailer N Brown, owner of brands JD Williams, Simply Be and Jacamo, said it will pay all its employees the new National Living Wage, including those aged under 25.

The Manchester-based company has 2,800 employees based in the UK, all of which will be paid at least £7.20 an hour from April 2016.

Under the UK’s new National Living Wage law, companies must pay at least that much to workers aged 25 and over, with the rate set to rise to more than £9 an hour by 2020. The compulsory law, however, does not apply to employees aged 24 and under, who are to receive the National Minimum Wage of £6.70 an hour.

“We’re applying the National Living Wage to all of our employees, regardless of age, as ultimately we think this is the right thing to do,” said People Director Caroline Massingham. “The changes affect 262 of our colleagues… however that will increase over the next four years as the government aims for its £9 an hour target by 2020.”

The new National Living Wage came into effect on April 1st.
