The San Francisco store marks the digital-native retailer’s first foray in physical stores. The new store offers a curated selection of women’s fashion, beauty and home goods, as well as access to complimentary services such as private one-on-one appointments with a personal stylist and same-day pick-up or delivery for online orders.

“As a digital-first retailer and a small business, we’re incredibly excited to be opening our first physical door in our hometown,” said Founder and CEO Jessica Lee. “From the moment we launched, we’ve met and talked with our customers every single day. Those intimate conversations reinforced the importance of having an offline home for our local community—not only to test and learn, but to truly connect with her.”

Founded by Gap alum Jessica Lee and COO Lizzie Agnew in 2014, Modern Citizen offers affordable fashion, accessories and home goods for prices ranging from $50 to $200. The retailer aims to empower women by making refined style accessible.

To celebrate the opening of its first store, the retailer hosted a block party with Sephora, SoulCycle, Wrecking Ball Coffee Roasters, Urban Remedy and other merchants and restaurants on Union Street.

“Our community of women is our inspiration,” said Agnew. Our customers are amazingly accomplished at work and at home, and our focus is to provide them with an assortment that supports their lifestyle. For our woman, that means a curated collection that combines elevated design, value and versatility.”
