London College of Style launches fashion photography course
Aug 24, 2018
London College of Style is venturing into the fashion photography arena with a new course dedicated to helping emerging photographers hone their skills and gain access to work opportunities.
The college, founded in 2010 to train fashion stylists, is expanding its course offering after seeing social media channels such as Instagram fuel the popularity of fashion photography.
Written by fashion and celebrity photographer Leigh Keily, the course will combine theory sessions with practical assignments at fashion brands, media and industry events. Students will get to photograph designers at London Fashion Week and work to industry-quality briefs on their own photoshoots.
Dan Blake, director of education said: “Industry focus groups with emerging fashion photographers, traditionally trained and trying to break into the industry, revealed they often felt lacking in certain skills, so we’ve fed this into the syllabus. Understanding industry protocols in order to engage with the various factions, plus ongoing career support, topped their wish list and our new course addresses this.
“We teach students how to engage properly with fashion editors, model bookers and stylists, how to network effectively, introduce yourself to new contacts and how to edit work for ‘go see’ appointments so that it appeals to the client. Having completed the course, students will have developed their vital signature style across a carefully curated portfolio and know how to launch their career.”
The 3-month fashion photography course will be based in Fulham and aimed at beginners and aspiring photographers just starting out.
Tutors will include top fashion photographers such as Kenneth Lam, whose clients include Harvey Nichols, GQ and The Sunday Times; and Tiffany Mumford whose work has featured in Vogue, Elle, L’Officiel and Marie Claire.
