Lexus extends NYFW sponsorship, Amazon leaves NYFW: Men's

IMG and the CFDA announced this month some developments for its New York Fashion Week sponsorships. First, Lexus has extended its partnership with IMG as lead partner for NYFW: The Shows, and Amazon cut its sponsorship deal with the CFDA for New York Fashion Week: Men’s.

As per the partnership, Lexus will be the lead partner of NYFW: The Shows for four more seasons. The contract will run through February 2019. Lexus first signed on as a sponsor of NYFW: The Shows in September 2015.

Amazon is ending its sponsorship of NYFW: Men’s, after serving as principal sponsor since 2015. Mark Beckham, the CFDA’s Business Director of Fashion Week, told WWD that the CFDA and Amazon will continue to work together even though the sponsorship has ended. He also added that Samsung will continue to sponsor the men’s fashion week.

Kate Dimmock, the Fashion Director of Amazon Fashion, told WWD that the plan of the sponsorship was “to support CFDA’s mission to help solve a real business challenge facing the men’s wear industry. We’re pleased to see the positive impact of our combined efforts after only four seasons.”

According to the publication, many were pleased with NYFW: Men’s this season, including fashion directors at Bergdorf Goodman, Barneys, Saks Fifth Avenue and Bloomingdale’s.

Both fashion weeks benefitted from the addition of Raf Simons, who presented the fall collection of his namesake label at NYFW: Men’s and his first Calvin Klein collection at NYFW. The addition of the Belgian designer and continued sponsorships could curtail the increasing number of designers and brands that are moving away from NYFW, including Proenza Schouler, Rodarte, Tommy Hilfiger, and recently Lacoste.
