Lenzing facing difficulties due to the drop in prices of materials over the first nine months

The specialist in cellulose fibers announced a 16% drop in its profits for the January-September period, with an EBITDA of 159.8 million euros. Sales are down 6.2% to 1.357 billion euros.

More than half of this drop is due to the stoppage of the plastics activities, decided in 2013. The company is having to deal with the increasingly dropping prices of materials. Over nine months, the company's fibers were sold at 1.55 euros a kilo, compared to 1.73 a year earlier. Fiber sales rose 7%.

"The drop in prices is not entirely compensated for by the increase in the production of fibers and the volumes sold, partly due to the successful launch of the new manufacturing factory for the Tencel fiber," points out the company.

In 2013, Lenzing saw a 8.7% drop in its sales, at 1.91 billion euros. A drop that was already largely attributable to the drop in the prices of materials. The company's operations director, Friedrich Weninger, recently announced his departure from the company set for January.
