John Lewis fashion sales climb on children’s ranges

Children’s clothing and children’s shoes helped John Lewis reach a 6.9% increase in fashion sales in the week to 10 of September as demand for Back to School ranges intensified.
Fashion sales were up 6.8%, with children’s clothing and shoes up 35.1% and children’s shoes up 94%. The retailer said its new luxe range Modern Rarity was well received by customers, helping Womenswear to increase sales by 5.6%.
Home sales were also on the up, reflecting the successful launch of Design Project – John Lewis’ new home range which is completely designed in-house. Overall home sales were up 5.2% supported by an increase in furniture sales (+12.8%).
The UK retailer said the electrical and home technology category benefitted from the start of the new term as computing and tables boosted the Communication Technology category to 35.7%.
Overall, sales were up 9.1% year-on-year to £82.7m.
