Preppy clothing brand Jack Wills has its eyes on Basingstoke, where it has signed a deal to open its first store at Festival Place.

The brand will open a 2,800-square-foot store at the shopping centre, joining other top retailers including anchor stores Marks & Spencer, Debenhams and Next, as well as H&M, Zara, Superdry and JD Sports.

This is the latest signing in a flurry of arrivals at Festival Place following its acquisition by real estate asset manager AEW in December 2015. Since then, the shopping centre has welcomed 25 new brands and many of its 57 existing tenants have chosen to upgrade, upsize or relocate. Footfall has increased by over two million over the last 2.5 years, taking the annual total to 22.4 million customers.

“Festival Place is the ideal location for our first Basingstoke store. Improvements to the centre and the strong catchment profile means we’re confident of trading well,” said Neil Beaman, property director at Jack Wills.

Alongside Jack Wills, Côte Brasserie will open a 3,350-square-foot restaurant at the centre.

Russell Jewell, head of private equity funds at AEW, said: “These latest brands demonstrate the high-quality, aspirational brands that the scheme continues to attract. Both names are opening in the town for the first time, joining an appealing line-up of retailers and dining operators. Our overall refurbishment, combined with upgrades by tenants, will continue to make Festival Place even more enticing.”
