J. Crew and Madewell to offer extended sizes

J. Crew and sister brand Madewell are offering extended sizing and inclusive silhouettes for their Spring 2018 denim collections. The new sizing for both labels ranges from 23 through 35.

As part of its efforts to create a more inclusive range, Madewell is debuting the "Curvy Jean" - Madewell

Madewell has stated that the new collection is full of "superflattering fits" with extra details and higher quality denim. The call to action in the new campaign has a quote from a consumer saying, "I want those jeans in my size."

Madewell's Spring collection introduces core denim styles in sizes 000 through 20 for both petite and plus customers. The brand also offers eleven styles of denim in sizes 23-35.

Madewell has also introduced a new style of denim designed to target plus-size customers. The Curvy Jean is a high rise skinny with a higher rise and more room in the thigh and lower hip areas. It also features a new waist band designed to improve fit and contour.

J. Crew rolled out select styles in its Spring denim collection in extended sizes, as well. While J. Crew did not specifically comment outside of a marketing email announcing the new denim sizes, the company does hope to add more sizes in more categories in the future.

Although 2017 was a challenging year for J. Crew, the decision to expand sizing is on point for both brands.

Target will also be launching its private label affordable denim line, Universal Thread, next month with expanded sizes. The company reportedly built out a plus-size line after surveying 1,000 women regarding their denim preferences.

As the market shifts, consumers can expect to see expanded sizing from the brands that traditionally have offered more limited size ranges. Madewell and J. Crew extended sizes are now available online.
