Intu unveils plan to transform Trafford Centre's Barton Square

Published
Jul 11, 2018

Work on a £75 million transformation of Intu Trafford Centre’s Barton Square will start later this year to deliver a fully redesigned interior and a new glass-domed roof.

The project, unveiled by shopping centre owner Intu on Wednesday, has attracted a number of brands, including leading Irish clothing chain Primark which has signed up as anchor tenant.

Other brands such as Next Home, Sea Life Manchester and Legoland Discovery Centre will also join the retail and leisure line-up at Intu Trafford Centre when the project completes in early 2020.

Colin Flinn, regional managing director at Intu, said: “There’s nowhere else quite like Intu Trafford Centre and we’re now investing £75 million to deliver a new space with a real ‘wow factor’ that will bring more brands and unique experiences.

“Many of the things that make Intu Trafford Centre so special will be extended into the Barton Square area of centre, allowing us to attract quality new brands and provide even more for people to shop, eat, play and do.”

The redevelopment is expected to sign more retailers in the coming months. But Intu Trafford is not the only shopping centre in the portfolio in line for a revamp.

Work is already well underway on two more of Intu’s destinations. At Intu Watford, a 400,000-square-foot extension will open in the autumn, and Intu Lakeside’s £72 million development for additional leisure experiences is launching next year.
