France's Pascal Millet: 'Fashion should stir the desires of our clients'

At Paris Fashion Week, French designer Pascal Millet spoke about his new fall/winter 2017-2018 collection, which previewed March 2 at 7pm, as well as outlining his inspirations and his view of fashion today. Paris Fashion Week runs February 28 to March 7 in the French capital.

How would you describe this FW17 collection?
It's the label's 17th ... It's a feminine and contemporary collection where sportswear sits alongside a certain looseness. Comfortable coats also have a key place in the collection and, for the first time, there is a small "Fun Fur" series!

What are its main inspirations?
The starting point is an artwork by Jacques Villeglé, so there's a late 1950s "Saint-Germain" vibe, a kind of "intellectual chic."

Who did you design this collection for? What facet of a woman's life?
For all women in search of garments that are different, refined and wearable.

Which famous person, dead or alive, could embody the collection?
All the women of today ... But, if there has to be a reference, then perhaps Juliette Gréco and Françoise Sagan!

Bella Hadid, Gigi Hadid, Kendall Jenner. These three young women are as popular on the runway as they are on social networks. Is this a new generation of supermodels, one for the digital age?
Probably ... I don't have an opinion on the subject.

From socially or politically conscious to fun to connected: how do you see fashion evolving in the coming years?
For me, it seems important that fashion should respond to and stir the desires of our clients. That's what drives us at Pascal Millet. It's a "wearable" kind of fashion, with hints of volumes, shapes and materials, but which must still be clothes rather than "show costumes."
