Fendi signs licensing deal with Safilo

Published

PARIS, France - Safilo beat out competition Marchon to conclude a nine-year licensing agreement with Fendi eyewear. The Italian eye wear specialists owned by Dutch investors Hal and the Rom-based fashion house belonging to LVMH have signed a “licensing deal for the design, production and global distribution of Fendi eye wear until December 31 2022.”

The Safilo-made collection of Fendi glasses will be available in Fendi stores, department stores and opticians across the world from January 2014.

“We are really honored to announce this agreement with Fendi,” said Safilo Group chief executive officer Roberto Vedovotto. “We are proud to add a brand with such a unique and extraordinary heritage to our portfolio.” He also highlighted that the agreement reinforces Safilo’s tight relationship with LVMH and allows the group to strengthen its client relationships across the world. Amongst other Safilo licenses are Céline, Marc Jacobs and Dior.

Until now, Fendi had a licensing agreement with Marchon. The world’s third largest eye wear group, which belongs to American group VSP, signed with Fendi in 1991 for the distribution of Fendi eye wear in North America. In 2005 it signed a deal to work with the fashion house to work together on a global scale. The agreement was then renewed in 2010.
