‘Royal Women’ will look at the fashion style of Queen Alexandra, Queen Mary, Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother, and Princess Margaret, and explore how the role they played within the monarchy was reflected in their choice of dress.

In addition to items from the Fashion Museum collection, the showcase will feature a number of pieces from the Royal Collection lent by the Queen, with highlights including Queen Alexandra’s wedding dress and a Cristian Dior ‘Rose Pompon’ strapless day dress worn by Princess Margaret to Royal Ascot in 1952.

Elly Summers, curator, commented: “The Fashion Museum is one of the world’s great museum collections of historical fashionable dress and we are immensely fortunate that amongst its treasures it includes dress belonging to members of the Royal Family; we are equally fortunate in the loan of key pieces from the Royal Collection.”

A tartan silk dress belonging to Queen Alexandra and a dress and cape of gold lamé from Queen Mary’s wardrobe will be also featured in the exhibition, which will run for 14 months until April 2019.
