Consultation deadline on Oxford Street pedestrianisation extended until 2018

Westminster City Council has announced it has extended the consultation period on plans to transform Oxford Street and the surrounding area after people requested more time to consider the project.
The consultation, which began in November, was originally set to close on 17 December but it has been extended until 3 January. The process is seeking views on a joint proposal unveiled by the Mayor of London, Westminster City Council and Transport for London with the view of creating a traffic-free zone in the Oxford Street area.
“We’ve made lots of information available to the public about out plans and we want to give everyone, particularly those who will be directly affected, the greatest opportunity to consider the detailed proposals and submit their views as we want to hear from as many people as possible,” said Deputy Leader of Westminster City Council, Councillor Robert Davis.
He reassured the public that “no final decisions will be made until we have considered every response”.
Residents, business and visitors can respond to the proposals, which are designed to make Oxford Street safer for shoppers and less harmful to the environment.
