Shoe company Clarks has appointed Harper Dennis Hobbs to conduct a full review and modernisation of its property portfolio as part of a brand transformation process.

The British footwear brand has been making shoes since 1825 and has an archive of more than 22,000 styles. In the past 12 months, it has been working towards revamping its image with a new statement and collections, and now plans to review its stores to ensure they are the right size and located in the right locations.

This will enable Clarks to provide the right offering that matches its status as a desired retailer on the high street, it said on Tuesday.

As part of the review, Harper Dennis Hobbs will be contacting all Clarks landlords to share with them the direction the company is taking and how the Clarks brand has been transformed.

“These are exciting times for Clarks,” said CEO Mike Shearwood.

“Over the past 12 months we have begun a process of transforming our brand with a simple statement - the shoe is the star. For our Spring / Summer 2017 season we are bringing back a global lifestyle image to our brand to convey a sense of our spirit, a life assertion that our customers can relate to, understand, and want to share with. We are excited and looking forward to sharing our plans with landlords and working in partnership with them to explain the value that the Clarks brand can bring to their locations across the country.”

The shoe retailer regularly reviews its store portfolio, in fact it closed a store in Boston at the end of last year.

With nearly 200 years of history, Clarks is one of the most established footwear retailers in the UK. The business has more than 1,500 stores in 75 countries.
