The expansion follows a franchise agreement signed earlier this year between the British retailer and Planet Retail Holding Private Limited, which will see the opening of several stores across the country over the next few years.

The first store, launched this week, is located at Ambience Gurgaon shopping centre in Delhi. It will be followed by a second store in Select Citywalk shopping centre in New Delhi, while a further store in Mumbai’s Grand Galleria is planned to open before the end of the year.

“The new store opening in India marks an important step in our overseas expansion,” commented Kenny Wilson, CEO of Cath Kidston. “India is a very important market for us. Our customers in India have been able to buy our clothing, accessories and homeware online for some time now and I am really pleased that we are able to now provide the actual stores for them to visit.”

The lifestyle retailer has opened several international stores in the past year, including locations in Japan in Sendai, Sapporo and Kitasenju and the Middle East in Qatar and the UAE. Additionally, the brand is gearing up to expand into Latin America with the recent appointment of Michael Engelhaupt as head of the region.

In total, Cath Kidston trades from stores in 19 countries, including, France, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Philippines, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, Spain, Taiwan, Thailand and the UK.
