Cath Kidston founder steps down from director role

English fashion designer, Cath Kidston, MBE, has announced plans to step down from her role as Director of lifestyle retailer Cath Kidston Group Limited to pursue other interests.

“From founding the business back in 1993, Cath has been the driving force behind what the brand stands for today. From opening the first store in Holland Park, there are now over 200 stores around the world including in Japan and the Middle East with dedicated fans all around the world. Cath remains a large shareholder in the company as well as being a huge presence and personality for the business, brand and employees,” said a company spokesperson on Friday.

Cath Kidston stepped down as Creative Director of the homeware and fashion group in November 2014, 21 years after founding it. Christine Hafsten was appointed to take took over the role.

Commenting on her departure, Chairman Paul Mason said: “Cath has been an incredible sounding board for us all on the board. Her drive, spirit, entrepreneurism and design originality has been an inspiration to us all. Cath remains a very important brand ambassador for the company as well as a significant shareholder.”

Cath Kidston will remain a 12% shareholder in Cath Kidston Group.

Other shareholders in the floral-based compant are Baring Asia, TA Associates and the management at Cath Kidston Group.
