On Sunday, Montreal-based designer, Pedram Karimi, presented his fall/winter 2016-17 collection at New York Fashion Week.

The designer who has previously shown at Toronto’s Men’s Fashion Week and Montreal’s Fashion Preview showcase, hit the New York City runway this season, for the first time ever.

As Canadian media and stores have shown little support in the past, this year, he decided to bring his collection across the border.

“Canada is not ready for me yet,” Karimi says. “Canadian luxury stores and magazines unfortunately don’t support progressive homegrown talent. All they can sell or report about is rather safe and ordinary brands products.”

For his NYFW debut, Karimi presented a collection of androgynous fashion.

“[…] as always I like to redefine and confuse the meaning of masculinity and femininity, because honestly, this to me just does not exist,” he explains.

The collection follows Karimi’s signature avant-garde aesthetic. It features unisex leggings, skirts, blouses and dresses, in shades of black, white and beige.
