Both will receive OBEs for services to the retail sector, joining a total of 1,123 people who will receive an award.

Rucker started her homeware brand The White Company in 1994. Her business has grown since then from a store selling white essentials such as duvets, sheets and towels to a nationwide retailer stocking everything from tableware to cashmere clothing pieces.

Her husband Nick Wheeler founded Charles Tyrwhitt as a mail order only shirt brand in 1986. His company has now stores around the world in cities like New York, Paris and Washington DC, with its ‘four shirts for £100' offer becoming a key part of its success.

Former British Vogue editor Alexandra Shulman was also named in the New Year’s Honours List, and will receive a CBE for her services to fashion journalism.

She stepped down from the fashion magazine in June after 25 years, handing over responsibility for the fashion publication to Edward Enninful.
