Barclays teams up with Amazon on delivery lockers

British bank Barclays is collaborating with Amazon, the e-tail giant, on a click-and-collect initiative that lets customers pick up parcels in its bank branches.

According to The Daily Mail, Barclays has been trialing delivery lockers across sites in London as a way to increase footfall in branches. The trial could be rolled out to Barclays entire network, which consists of 1500 stores, if it's successful in London. Amazon is already delivering parcels to click and collect sites including post offices, train stations and news agents.

Barclays is currently looking for ways to utilise its bank branches, which have been losing customers as people increasingly use online banking. Critics say bank closures will have a negative affect for small firms and the elderly, who rely on bricks-and-mortar branches. Derek French, director of the Campaign for Community Banking, which opposes bank closures, told the newspaper: ‘The bank closures will accelerate the death of the British high street.’

Barclays is now also offering its services in Asda supermarkets and through pick-up service Barclays Collect.

Amazon has been making a push into the fashion world recently, and is allegedly now developing its own clothing lines. It registered the labels Lark & Ro, North Eleven and Franklin Tailored over the past few months.
