Alexa Chung has unveiled the first episode of her new fashion documentary series with Vogue UK.

The British style icon, Vogue contributing editor and general poster girl for the London scene has teamed up with the fashion bible on "The Future of Fashion", a six-episode series designed to shed light on one of the UK's biggest industries.

"I've been working in fashion since I was 15," explains the former model, introducing the first mini documentary. "And I've always found the inner workings of the industry fascinating. As an art form it has the power to create social change and challenge ideas of body image and sexuality. The thing that really bothers me though is that people are really dismissive of fashion in general."

With the help of designer Christopher Kane and the British Fashion Council, Chung attempts to debunk the myths surrounding the fashion industry -- most notably, its somewhat elitist reputation.

She interviews experts on the issue, exploring the myriad career options offered by the clothing business, and urges young hopefuls not to be put off by the perceived difficulty of making it in the fashion world.

The series has been created with the younger generation in mind and tailored to its concerns, with Vogue fans submitting the questions they wanted to see answered throughout the project in advance via YouTube. Each 10-minute episode will be revealed weekly on the Vogue UK YouTube channel.

"The Future of Fashion" launches just days after Chung revealed her first technology venture, a style app called Villoid which promises to act as a virtual dressing room. Inspired by the cult 1990s movie "Clueless", the app offers users a platform where they can share their style by uploading products and photographs onto a mood board, follow friends and fellow style mavericks, and purchase items.

Chung started out as a model in her teens, and has since branched out into TV presenting and designing, collaborating with big names such as Tommy Hilfiger on high fashion projects.
