Adidas seizes the limelight with new 3D-printed running shoe
For just over a year, Adidas has continued to promote itself as an innovative brand with its Futurecraft project. One of the highlights communicated by the German group is the development of its 3D Runner, constructed in part with 3D printing technology.
The label is breaking new ground this December 15th with the sale of the running shoe. It features a 3D-printed midsole attached to a Primeknit upper. Naturally, created in limited quantities, the label has not adopted large-scale production, but the appearance of the first model enables Adidas to demonstrate its advances in research and development after the recent release of the Hyperadapt 10 by Nike.
The 3D Runner will be available in the New York, Tokyo and London flagships. Trainer fans can reserve a pair in advance for $333 (£262) via the application ‘Adidas Confirmed.’ The date, or possibility, for large-scale production of this technology by the brand remains to be seen.
