AFP - The German sports equipment manufacturer Adidas has suspended all promotional activity during the World Cup with Uruguayan striker Luis Suarez, who was severely punished by FIFA on Thursday after biting an Italian opponent.

"Adidas certainly does not condone Luis Suarez’s recent behavior and we will again be reminding him of the high standards we expect from our players. We have no plan to use Suarez for any additional marketing activities during the 2014 FIFA World Cup," said Adidas in a brief statement to the AFP.

"Adidas fully supports FIFA’s decision," emphasized the company.

The soccer star has been suspended for nine international games and disqualified for four months from any soccer-related activity, an unprecedented suspension given out by FIFA for an incident between players.

The German brand is Suarez’s official sponsor.

Mariana Ramos, Adidas’ spokesperson in Sao Paulo, told the AFP that la Celeste’s player was supposed to have taken part in the brand’s promotional activity throughout the World Cup, but that from now on he was excluded from such activity.

“Plans for the future - for after the Cup - will be reviewed once the competition has ended," said added.
